Cost guide

Chauffeur, taxi, train or parking: the real cost of an airport transfer

The cheapest fare on paper is rarely the cheapest journey. Once you count parking, luggage, changes and the risk of a delay, the four ways to reach an airport separate out quickly — here is the honest comparison.

Count the whole journey, not the sticker price

A train ticket looks cheapest until you add the taxi at the far end, the changes with luggage, and the ticket for a second traveller. Driving yourself looks free until a week in an airport car park costs more than the flights. A metered taxi looks convenient until it meets the M25 at the wrong hour.

A chauffeur transfer is a single fixed fare, agreed before you travel, with tolls and the airport pickup fee inside it — no meter, no parking. For one traveller with hand luggage the train can still win; for two or more, with cases, or an early flight, the door-to-door car usually wins on both time and total cost.

Where each option makes sense

Public transport is the value pick for the solo traveller, travelling light, with time to spare and no early start. Airport parking suits a short trip in your own car — but the per-day maths turns against it fast on longer stays. A taxi is fine for a short, off-peak hop where you don’t mind the meter.

A chauffeur earns its place when certainty matters: an early departure, a long-haul return, a family with luggage, a client to impress, or a fixed budget you don’t want a meter to breach. The value isn’t only the car — it’s that the price cannot move.

Is a chauffeur really cheaper than a taxi to the airport?

Often, once traffic is involved — a chauffeur fare is fixed while a taxi meter climbs at peak. For a longer or peak-time run the fixed price frequently comes out lower, and always more predictable.

Is the train not always cheapest?

For one person travelling light, usually yes. For two or more, or with luggage and a taxi at the far end, the door-to-door car often matches or beats it on total cost and always on effort.

What does a fixed-price transfer include?

The fare, all road tolls, the airport pickup fee, flight tracking and an hour of arrivals waiting — with the London charges included where the route applies. Nothing is added at the kerb.

Is airport parking cheaper for a long trip?

Rarely — a week or two in an airport car park often costs more than a return chauffeur transfer, and you still drive yourself both ways.

Why is a chauffeur fare fixed when a taxi’s isn’t?

We price the journey on distance and time when you book and hold it; traffic, roadworks and the hour of day become our risk, not a line on your bill.

How do I get an exact price?

Enter the journey and you’ll see the fixed fare per vehicle class before you commit — no obligation, no meter.
