Chauffeur Transfers to Shangri-La at The Shard
Shangri-La occupies the upper floors of The Shard, from level 34 up, but the entrance itself is at ground level on St Thomas Street by London Bridge station — not somewhere you drive up to the building's height, despite what the address suggests. We take guests there often, and knowing exactly where the entrance sits saves confusion on arrival.
London Bridge is one of the busier interchange areas south of the river, with the station, bus routes and Guy's Hospital traffic all converging nearby. The hotel entrance has a proper pull-in bay, but the approach roads around it can be tight, especially during station rush hour when pedestrian volume spikes too.
Getting There from the Airports
Shangri-La's south-of-the-river location actually works in its favour for Gatwick transfers — the run up the A23 and A3 into London Bridge avoids some of the central congestion a Mayfair or Knightsbridge hotel would involve. From Heathrow it's a longer cross-London run via the A4 or M4 and through the centre, which we time around traffic rather than distance alone.
Evening Arrivals with a View
Many of our Shangri-La bookings are evening arrivals timed around sunset, since the upper-floor bars and restaurant look out over the whole city and guests want to arrive with enough daylight left to see it. If that's the plan, tell us the time you want to be seated and we'll work backward from there, accounting for London Bridge traffic.
What It Costs
Shangri-La to Gatwick typically runs £70-£95, to Heathrow £80-£105, both in an executive saloon. Central London transfers from The Shard — over the river into the City or West End — usually sit around £30-£50. Prices are fixed and confirmed before pickup, regardless of traffic on the day. Questions, answered.
Where exactly does the car drop off for Shangri-La at The Shard?
At ground level on St Thomas Street, next to London Bridge station — the hotel itself is on the upper floors, but check-in and the entrance are at street level.
Is Gatwick or Heathrow a shorter run to Shangri-La?
Gatwick tends to be the more direct route since it avoids central London congestion, but both are manageable — we'll quote whichever you're flying from.
Can you time a drop-off for sunset at the hotel's bar?
Yes, this is a common request — tell us your target arrival time and we'll build in a traffic buffer around London Bridge so you're not late for the view.
