Chauffeur Day Trip From London to Stonehenge

Chauffeur Day Trip From London to Stonehenge — P5 Chauffeurs journal

Stonehenge sits on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, roughly 90 miles from central London, and the drive takes around two hours each way on the M3 and A303 in normal traffic — longer on summer weekends when the A303 backs up near the monument itself. Entry to Stonehenge is by timed ticket booked in advance through English Heritage, so the trip needs to be planned around your entry slot rather than around when you feel like leaving.

The visitor centre sits about a mile and a half from the stones themselves, connected by a shuttle bus or a walkable path across the plain. Most visits run to about two hours total on-site once you include the visitor centre exhibition, which covers the site's history and the tools used to move the stones.

Planning Around the Entry Slot

Once you have a timed ticket, we build the pickup time backwards from it, allowing for the two-hour drive plus a buffer for A303 traffic, which is genuinely unpredictable near the monument. If you don't yet have tickets, we can advise on typical availability, but booking is done directly through English Heritage rather than through us.

What It Costs

A London-to-Stonehenge round trip typically runs from around £280-£380 in an executive saloon, reflecting the four-hour round-trip driving time. The price is fixed and agreed before you travel regardless of how the A303 behaves that day. Call 020 8129 4999 with your ticket time and we'll build the pickup around it.

Combining With Salisbury or Bath

Salisbury, with its cathedral and the best-preserved of the four surviving Magna Carta copies, is about 25 minutes from Stonehenge and pairs naturally with it for a fuller day. Some clients also combine Stonehenge with Bath, though that makes for a long day given the driving distances involved — worth discussing with us before committing to both.

Questions, answered.

Do we need to book Stonehenge tickets before the trip?

Yes, entry is by timed ticket through English Heritage and slots can sell out, particularly in summer, so we'd recommend booking before confirming your travel date with us.

How long should we allow at Stonehenge itself?

About two hours covers the visitor centre exhibition, the shuttle or walk out to the stones, and time at the monument itself without rushing.

Is Stonehenge worth combining with Salisbury in the same day?

Yes — they're about 25 minutes apart, and Salisbury Cathedral with its Magna Carta copy is a manageable addition without making the day excessively long.
