Chauffeur Day Trip From London to Cambridge
Cambridge is one of the easiest day trips out of London — about 60 miles up the M11, roughly 90 minutes to two hours door to door depending on where in London you start. That short a drive means you can do a genuinely relaxed day rather than a rushed one.
Most people want to see King's College Chapel, walk along the Backs where the college lawns run down to the river, and either punt on the Cam themselves or watch someone else do the work from a chauffeured punt. Cambridge city centre has restricted vehicle access in places, so knowing exactly where a car can and can't drop you saves a lot of walking with bags or camera gear.
Getting the Timing Right
We typically leave central London around 9am, which puts you in Cambridge by 10.30-11am with the colleges open and before the tourist coaches arrive in force. Trinity College, King's, and St John's are all walkable from a single drop-off point near the city centre, and we can hold the car there or reposition it depending on where you finish.
Pricing and Booking
A London-to-Cambridge round trip with several hours of waiting time typically runs from around £220-£300 in an executive saloon, more in an S-Class or if you need a V-Class for a larger group. As always, the price is fixed and agreed before you travel — no meter, no surge pricing if the M11 is slow on the way back. Call 020 8129 4999 to confirm times and get a fixed quote.
Beyond the Colleges
If your group has already done the standard college circuit on a previous visit, the Fitzwilliam Museum and the Cambridge American Cemetery at Madingley are both worth the extra time and neither gets anywhere near the footfall of King's Parade. We can add either without significantly changing the overall day.
Questions, answered.
Is Cambridge doable as a half-day trip?
Yes — with a 90-minute drive each way, a half-day of 5-6 hours total including 2-3 hours in Cambridge is realistic if you only want the core colleges and the Backs.
Can the driver drop us right by King's College?
Central Cambridge has vehicle restrictions, so we use the nearest legal drop-off point, typically a short walk from King's Parade, and the driver will confirm the exact spot on the day.
Do you arrange the punting as well?
We don't operate the punts ourselves, but we can time the day around a punting slot and drop you directly at the punt station on the river.
