Chauffeur Day Trip From London to Bath
Bath sits about 115 miles west of London, and by car that's roughly two hours each way on the M4 — closer to two and a half if you catch the Reading bottleneck at the wrong time. For a city built almost entirely from honey-coloured Bath stone, a day trip works better by road than by train, because you're not stuck to a timetable once you're there.
Most clients doing Bath in a day want three things covered: the Roman Baths, the Royal Crescent and the Circus, and enough time to walk the Georgian streets around Pulteney Bridge without rushing. Door-to-door in an executive saloon, you can realistically fit all of it into an 8 to 9 hour round trip from central London, including two to three hours on the ground in Bath.
What the Day Looks Like
We usually collect between 8am and 9am to beat the worst of the M4 traffic out of London, arrive in Bath around 10.30am-11am, and hold a return slot for late afternoon. If you want to add Castle Combe or Lacock village on the way back — both used repeatedly as film locations and about 20 minutes off the direct route — we can build that into the itinerary rather than treating it as a separate booking.
What It Costs
A London-to-Bath round trip with waiting time typically runs from around £280-£380 in a Mercedes E-Class, depending on how long the car waits and whether you add a stop in the Cotswolds on the way. The price is agreed before you travel — no surge pricing, no meter running while you're inside the Roman Baths. Call 020 8129 4999 and we'll quote the exact route and waiting time you need.
Why Not the Train
The train from Paddington to Bath Spa is quick when it runs on time, but it drops you at the station, not at the Royal Crescent, and doesn't help if you want to detour through a Cotswolds village on the way home. A chauffeured car door-to-doors you at each stop and waits while you're there, which matters more on a single-day visit than the raw journey time does.
Questions, answered.
How long does the drive from London to Bath take?
About two hours each way on the M4 in normal traffic, closer to two and a half hours during peak periods or bad weather.
Can we stop at a Cotswolds village on the way back?
Yes — Castle Combe and Lacock are both roughly 20 minutes off the direct route and we regularly build them into a Bath day trip. Mention it when booking so we can allow the extra time.
Does the driver wait while we visit the Roman Baths?
Yes, the car and driver wait for you throughout the day. There's no separate charge for waiting time beyond what's built into the agreed fixed price.
