Using a Chauffeur for the People Side of a House Move
Removals firms move boxes and furniture. They generally don't move you, your elderly parent who's come to help, or the folder of paperwork you need to carry personally to the solicitor's office at 11am. That gap is where a chauffeur booking fits into moving day, and it's a use case we get asked about more than people expect.
On a typical relocation day there's a run of separate journeys that don't suit a removals van: getting from the old address to the new one while the van is loaded, a trip to collect keys, a run to a storage unit for the last few boxes that didn't fit, or simply getting a family member with mobility issues out of the way of a chaotic morning and into the new place calmly.
How This Usually Gets Booked
Most people book either a single point-to-point transfer for moving day itself, or a car on an hourly or half-day basis if there are several stops — solicitor, bank, old address, new address — across the same day. Tell us the shape of the day when you book and we'll suggest whichever structure works out more sensibly priced.
Luggage and Loose Items
A saloon has a reasonable boot for a few cases, but if you're carrying framed art, a few boxes of essentials, or anything awkward alongside passengers, a V-Class gives you the room without needing a second car. Tell us roughly what's coming with you so we send the right vehicle rather than a car that's too tight for the job.
What It Costs
A single cross-London transfer on moving day typically runs £45-£85 depending on distance, and a half-day hourly booking with multiple stops is quoted as a fixed day rate agreed before you travel — no meter running while you're stuck waiting at a solicitor's office. Call 020 8129 4999 with your moving day plan and we'll put together a fixed quote.
Questions, answered.
Can you fit multiple stops into one booking on moving day?
Yes — tell us the stops you need (old address, new address, solicitor, bank, and so on) and we'll quote it as an hourly or half-day booking rather than several separate transfers.
Will the car have room for boxes as well as passengers?
A saloon fits a few cases comfortably. If you've got boxes, art, or anything bulky alongside passengers, ask for a V-Class — it gives you far more usable space.
Can you help an elderly relative get to the new address separately from the rest of the family?
Yes, that's a common request — booking a separate car for one person on a hectic moving day means they're settled and out of the chaos while everyone else deals with the van.
