London season planner

The big days, planned for.

London's busiest days make ordinary journeys slow. Here is the usual shape of the year, and how to arrange a car so the day starts well and ends without a hunt for a ride home.

Dates change every year. Check the organiser for the exact day, then use the tips below.

Five rules for event days

  1. Work back from the time you need to be inside. Add security queues, the walk from the drop-off and the traffic that always builds near a big venue.
  2. Expect the drop-off to be away from the gate. Road closures and controlled perimeters often move it. Ask us where the car can actually stop.
  3. Book the journey home at the same time. Agree a collection window, the meeting point and a phone number. If the finish time is uncertain, ask how waiting or a changed pickup is charged before you travel.
  4. Book early. The same few days fill every year. Rush-hour, night (10pm to 6am) and bank holiday journeys cost more, and the fare is fixed when you book.
  5. Tell us what you are carrying. A full party, formal wear or a picnic hamper changes the vehicle you need. See the fleet and what counts as a large case.
